What we need to remember is that this magnificent work of genius started out with a BLANK PAGE. Atheists can seem to explain the Universe any way they wish, but they have no idea how a person was able to create this OUT FROM A BLANK PAGE. Look at your desk. Take out some empty typing paper. Elgar used blank manuscript paper. All it had was lines on it. Nothing else. Just lines. Something about his brain allowed this to occur. I have no idea what it was. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
We just this morning visited the place of Elgar’s birth and, after listening to this wonderful piece again, find it so hard to understand the vitriol which was heaped on the work of this gifted, (largely self taught) British writer?
With an aged port, a bar of rum and raisin dark chocolate, and the best headphones in a lowly lit room, this would place me in Nirvana. Sublime. Magnum opus.
🙏🏻😊thank goodness for your mercy on me, the Germany 🇩🇪. Please support the world and keep the peace of the people at the Right Place for life living please, especially for the Ukraine people 😢🫶🏻.
Its like the feeling you get when you enter an historic building and it transports you back in time,,the smell the feeling the nostalgia this tune will always make you remember the brave who died for us to live and its fitting for them RIP
The late Colin Davis was one of my favorite, perhaps "the" favorite of contemporary conductors, for me. He used to guest conduct the Boston Symphony Orchestra decades ago when Seiji Ozawa was Music Director and the principal conductor, and Ozawa was excellent, but the exquisite Colin Davis was so elegant and the best. Probably I heard him conduct , as I sat in the balcony, Mozart or someone who required a refined manner interpretation, just as here with Elgar. All I can say is that I was in the right place at the right time to hear Colin Davis live more than once. (So interesting to watch his understated manner here in this video. That's exactly how I remember him so many years ago - and the sense that he was delivering a performance close to what was intended by the composer.)
Considered to be one of the most melodic songs to be created. A person can interpret its meaning in so many ways which makes variations unique to the listener. There is hope, light, mystery and death. Yet, from death comes resurrection into the light once more. One could say that even the resurrection itself mirrors the universe and combines everything else into one opus such as this gem gives us. An incredible performance by the orchestra along with long time conductor Sir Colin Davis. A beautiful piece which will remain as timeless as our limitless imaginations can be.
Yes, he was !!! When I listen to this version I am thinking of the late Queen Elizabeth II. What a remarkable Queen she was, I was in correspondence with her for many years (replies came from her ladies-in-waiting.) The last letter I got from Balmoral was three days before she died. Even though I am Finnish, I met and talked with her three times in the UK. I am still thinking of her every day, she was unique!! Greetings from Finland !!
A moving rendition of a sublime piece of music by the greatest of English composers, Edward Elgar, conducted here by one of the most accomplished English conductors, the late Colin Davis! To the memory of the great departed Queen Elizabeth II. RIP.
Velice krásná část, motiv připomíná trochu styl volných vět velkých koncertů Ludwiga van Beethovena. Jemně, citlivě a přitom velice precizně podáno. Děkuji za nahrávku a srdečně zdravím z České republiky, oblasti města Rakovník. ✋
Until the end of time, man's greatest achievement will be the ability to communicate complex emotions through the power and majesty of music. This piece is a perfect demonstration of that achievement.
Such a great version. When this movement is played separate from the rest of the variations (most often as a memorial piece), it is often taken a little slower. But this seems to be the perfect tempo for this.

My father would watch this on Remembrance Day in total silence with a tear in his eye as he thought of his comrades who didn’t get that chance
I have to say it, this is the most perfect version - what a kindly, lovely, ineffable performance! Thank You!
one of the best performances I have ever heard!!!
Sublime
The only thing missing: silence after the last note , whose resonance is cut by the abrupt applaud.... Painful
Sublime! The best version of Nimrod of all! Bravo!!
Hair, gut, wood, metal and Heart. For all the bastardry that man doeth, he sure can be eternal.
Esto es extraterreste.
Bravi, Sir Colin! The greatest YT video of Nimrod so far
Agreed

So not blank then.
Why did the editor "honor" your reply with a highlight? I would have used it for TP. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)

Hmmm! Lovely but too much focus on the conductor, I would much rather see the orchestra.
define beautiful?................listen to this!
Love this version, I defy anyone not to moved by this, simply stunning.

RIP Sir C. Davis. My favorite Sibelius conductor.

Sir Colin Davies conducting 5 years ago ? Did he die?
`Edward Elgar was not only Britain’s finest composer he was without question one of the greatest of all time from any country.

I have read that Elgar almost quit composing but a German friend of his told him to continue and not waste his talent.
Probably the most English piece ever... RIP Sir Colin Davis
The end of an era has found it’s finale close today, September 19 2022🇬🇧
Yes indeed.... 😥😭😥 Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ❤️👍
Glorious, simply glorious. Discovered too late. Why didn't I know about this treasure?

Agreed. Beethoven's late chamber stuff is the pinnacle of what you mention.
Great Britain, an empire of 1000 years! Respect from Romania!
Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful piece of music by Edward Elgar. Every time I listen to this I get goosebumps.
Good performance. I wouldn’t applaud to this piece.

Glad the Applause was left in. Never understood why so many videos tend to delete the Applause that's so vital.
Awe inspiring...perfect ..
